Tips for a Flawless Package Delivery

Ensuring a smooth package delivery involves careful preparation, tracking and communication.
First, choose a reliable delivery service
Compare Cincinnati small package delivery companies for speed, cost and reliability. Check reviews and references. See if the delivery companies you are considering offer services tailored to any special needs you may have.
Pack your item securely
Make sure you:
- Choose the right box–one that is sturdy and appropriately sized for your parcel.
- Cushion precious cargo–if your item(s) are fragile, let the carrier know, and wrap your items with bubble wrap, packing peanuts or other materials to prevent damage in transit.
- Seal your package properly with strong packing tape to secure all seams and edges.
Label the box clearly
- Write clearly. Include the recipient’s full name, street address, city, state, ZIP code and country (for international deliveries).
- Add your return address in case the package cannot be delivered (for example, if the driver cannot gain access to the property, or an aggressive dog makes it unsafe to go into the yard).
- Affix the label securely, flat on the largest side of the box to prevent damage or misplacement.
- Use printed labels to avoid legibility issues with handwriting. If you must handwrite, choose a dark ink pen that will not run (don’t use a marker).
Make sure what you are sending does not have any restrictions for delivery
Just as you cannot send hazardous materials or perishables through the US Mail, there are restrictions on what you can send via a local delivery service. If you are unsure, ask the courier if what you are sending is OK.
Many couriers also have weight and size limits. Again, asking ahead of time is best if you are not sure.
Just to be safe, insure valuable items
While loss and damage during transit are very rare with reputable Cincinnati courier services like Redkey Express, it is always a good idea to purchase shipping insurance for expensive or irreplaceable items.
Use the courier’s tracking services
Not only will you stay in the loop, the courier will stay on their toes knowing you are watching their performance. Ask for a tracking number when you book your delivery. Then monitor your package’s progress. You’ll know exactly when to expect delivery, and should a delay occur, you can address the situation with the courier as soon as possible and alert your recipient so they can adapt as needed.
Again, delays are unusual with Redkey Express. We make every effort to deliver on time and build goodwill with every customer—so they’ll call us again the next time they need a delivery!
Let your recipient know when to expect the package
Before you book the delivery, confirm someone will be available to receive the package, especially for signature-required deliveries.
Once the delivery process has begun, share the tracking number and estimated delivery date with your recipient.
Choose delivery enhancements
Depending on the importance of your package, you may want to ask for a signature confirmation to make sure the items is not left unattended (enticing to porch pirates).
Provide delivery instructions if needed, for example, where the package should be left.
Prepare for extreme weather and busy times
If you can, avoid shipping during extreme weather conditions. Allow extra time during holidays if delays are a concern. Consider expedited services during busy times.
Follow up
Confirm delivery with the courier or recipient. Address any issues (e.g., late delivery or damage) promptly by contacting the courier’s customer service. The delivery company should make it right by offering an apology and/or a discount on the service. If they don’t offer, ask for what you think is fair compensation.
