Vetting Package Delivery Services

Finding a local delivery service can be scary. How do you know they will get your package or freight to its destination on time, in one piece? If your shipment is especially fragile or valuable, it can be particularly difficult to trust a new service.
Here are some ways to lower the risk of using a new vendor to deliver your goods:
Check their reviews and references
Look for recent reviews and ask for references of customers whose needs are similar to yours. Then actually call the people the delivery company says can provide a reference and ask how their deliveries usually go.
We are always happy to provide references at Redkey Express. We understand that your cargo is precious and you need assurance it will arrive on time and in good shape. It is perfectly reasonable to speak with satisfied Redkey customers before you book a delivery with us!
Find out how long they have been in business and if they have grown over that time
Ask questions. Has the company been serving the tri-state for at least a decade? Have they grown over that time? If not, something is probably wrong. Redkey opened in 2001 and we have been growing ever since!
Do they have customers they have served over the long-term?
Ask about their long-term client relationships. Do they have a lot or a few customers they have served for years? We have dozens of customers who have trusted Redkey for over a decade.
Check prices
If a company’s prices are much higher or lower than their competitors, chances are the service is not a highly-regarded one. Good delivery companies are always competing for business and price their services accordingly.
Find out if drivers like working for the company
Find out if drivers like working at the delivery company. Ask how long a typical driver stays with the service.
Try the service out with a package that isn’t particularly important
You could even book a “decoy” Cincinnati small package delivery with only packing material inside. Test all of the following:
- Time door-to-door
- Professionalism of the person booking the delivery
- Professionalism of the driver
- If the package arrived in good condition
- Price
If you aren’t completely satisfied, try a different service!
Check out their facilities
Go to the company’s primary address and see if the signage is clear, grounds are tidy, the building is well-cared-for, etc. Companies that take good care of their facilities usually take good care of their employees and customers.
Ask about their tracking and proof of delivery systems
- Do they use the latest in real-time tracking?
- Can you see, either on your phone or online, where your package is at all times?
- Do they provide proof of delivery?
Find out if they specialize in the kind of delivery you need
Do you need any of the following special kinds of delivery?
- Job site
- White glove
- Pharmaceutical
- Liftgate
- Ladder rack
At Redkey, we offer all of the above and more.
What is their dispatching system like?
Can you get a live dispatcher any time of day or night? (You can at Redkey). Will they be able to get a driver on the way within a matter of minutes? (We will.)
Will they respond quickly if something goes wrong?
Can you reach a human being with one phone call who will be authorized to solve your problem? You can at Redkey Express!
